About this Job:

Provide support to the R&D Plant Pathology lab for all research, diagnostic testing, plant health testing, auditing, and seed testing in support of new and existing products at Syngenta Flowers

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Actively support product development projects which include testing for tolerance/resistance
  • Preparation of all media for culturing microbes
  • Perform disease testing and diagnosis
  • Index vegetative products for disease presence
  • Perform assays for seed-borne pathogens
  • Perform disease resistance screening
  • Execute assigned research projects
  • Collect and test samples for plant pathogens
  • Utilize all good hygiene/sanitation practices employed in the lab
  • Work independently or as a part of a team effort and are expected to know all protocols and complete tasks without the need of further supervision
  • Maintain clean laboratory work areas and supplies, including but not limited to sterile water, sterile papers, parafilm, and labels. Inform the Pathology Lab Technologist Lead when needing new supplies
  • Maintain detailed records as required and requested
  • Ensure all HSES and phytosanitary protocols are implemented, followed, and enforced
  • Maintain constant and open communication with Pathology Lab Technologist Lead
  • Perform other laboratory tasks as assigned

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • B.S. degree microbiology, cell biology, pathology, genetics, horticulture, crop or plant science or related field preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a biological laboratory
  • Experience with basic microbiology techniques
