GENERAL PURPOSE: The Assistant Nurse Manager has 24-hour shift responsibility. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for directing quality care to the patients and their families. Oversee the assessment, plan, coordination, implementation, evaluation and delivery of patient care and education provided by the staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager is a leadership role within an interdisciplinary team that influences and achieves optional clinical and resource outcomes. The Assistant Nurse Manager will function within the full scope of the RN licensure, according to the California Nurse Practice Act and adheres to hospital and unit specific standards of care. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates, directs, delegates, assigns, guides and serves as a resource to the department and patient care delivery team while modeling nursing professionalism through leadership, communication, education and participation. MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Demonstrates the ability to communicate the hospital's mission, vision and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff. · Provides leadership and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement. · Defines performance objectives and metrics for the department and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner. · Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others. · Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same. · Collaborates with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and/or patient care delivery. · Demonstrates fiscal accountability for department resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources. · Incorporates quality improvement data and/or patient satisfaction data into departmental goals. · Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other department functions. · Oversees: A. The determination of unit priorities for shift with regard to patient care, flow (bed control), staffing and distribution of resources. B. The provision of the status report on the unit and patient activities, involving the unit manager/director as needed. C. The determination of unit specific needs for equipment, supplies, security and safety of environment. D. The completion and/or delegation of the following: E. Code cart checks F. Quality control checks G. Department logs H. Acuity entries I. Narcotic discrepancy reports J. Other compliance related needs K. The appropriateness of patient care assignments using acuity and staffing guidelines. L. Facilitate and provide resolution/follow-up with all customers including patients, doctors, associates and students. · Assists the nurse manager and director in development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing service programs that ensure quality nursing, and patient care programs consistent with the hospital mission. · Assists the nurse manager to monitor and maintain unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and Hospital policy for patient services. · Collaborates with nurse manager to oversee unit PI program which monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care. · Maintains current license and knowledge of nursing care requirements for all patients on the unit. Assesses need for personal growth and development and takes the initiative in seeking opportunities to meet this need · Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow?through and communication. · Collaborates with the nurse manager to a service that is consistent with the patient care beliefs and shared management philosophy of the department. · Responsible for ongoing development of staff. · Shares responsibility with the nurse manager for effective communication and teamwork within the organization. · Demonstrate an understanding for specific product lines to evaluate clinical program design, implementation, management and monitoring of data · In collaboration with the nurse manager, is responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management of department operations to ensure proper utilization of organizational and financial resources · In collaboration with the nurse manager, is responsible for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards · Manages human resources to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations. · Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission. · Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing Associate's Degree in Nursing required Bachelor's Degree with concentration in Nursing preferred Requires current CA RN license Current BLS with American Heart Association Work Experience: · Minimum of 5 years direct care experience in Operating Room · 2 to 3 years of recent Charge Nurse experience preferred · Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities · Knowledge of scope of practice as defined in Nurse Practice Act · Knowledge of JACHO and Title XXII regulations · Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, to problem solve, to confront/resolve issues, to motivate others, to plan, organize and direct the activities of others.
