Splunk is the leader in big data, machine learning analytics with a significant presence in the cyber security market. This position provides leadership to the development and maintenance of a security culture at Splunk as Splunk advances our cyber security posture. This role will lead the building, maintaining and continuing to innovate a company-wide security awareness program. This approach is unique to the Splunk culture and embodies our mission, values and foundational beliefs in protecting ourselves and our customers.


  • You will conduct a cultural assessment of all existing training and awareness elements, identify outdated or irrelevant content, gaps in training and opportunities for improvement

  • You will develop detailed program plans for remediation, brainstorm creative methods based on employee feedback and execute

  • You will examine all available training solutions (including, but not limited to, CBT modules, in-person training sessions, phishing simulations, outreach materials, gamification options and more) and combine for a flexible and innovative program.

  • You will procure, plan and implement all outside solutions as needed

  • You will ensure all program elements adhere to, and align with, regulatory & governance bodies required for compliance, including NIST, SOX, ISO, PCI and others

  • You will maintain compliance with that guidance without using it to direct program format

  • You will develop and lead an Advisory Council among the senior leadership to ensure the program aligns with HR, Privacy, Legal, Marketing and other initiatives. Create partnership opportunities for joint events and campaigns across Splunk

  • You will incorporate the program into an all company-wide risk reduction effort that utilize Splunk solutions to gain insight into trends in user behavior and address issues immediately. Use results to create use cases supporting the product management teams and share insights with our customers

  • You will act as a trusted advisor in the greater security culture community, representing the company at working groups, conferences and other related events. Support both Industry and Government initiatives related to the program and continually drive innovation forward

  • You will develop a community outreach program to raise awareness & provide education beyond our walls, in partnership with Corporate Responsibility (and similar efforts)

  • You will create content designed specifically for Splunk employees to share with their families and provide opportunities to celebrate their, and Splunk’s, successes

  • You will organize security awareness events frequently; host large-scale events for National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Data Privacy Day and other national campaigns

  • You will demonstrate return on investment for programs and efforts including bringing together training & phishing metrics, incident reporting and other user-driven data to ensure program effectiveness


  • You have a consistent track record of developing and implementing employee development initiatives that deliver defined learning objectives aligned to business outcomes

  • You have experience supporting the transition of internal security policy into employee behavior and corporate culture

  • You have demonstrated an innovative approach to delivering defined learning objectives and experience measuring the effectiveness of training and education programs on corporate business objectives

  • You have entrepreneurial energy driving value

  • You are able to position investments against business outcomes and objectives

  • You work calmly in a fast paced, high stress environment with executive level exposure

  • You are able to bring order to chaos

  • 10+ years experience achieving business results by delivering training and education programs that deliver defined business results

  • Strong critical thinking skills to handle complex problems and issues

  • Functional knowledge of data security services in support of corporate business objectives

  • Demonstrated consistent ability to lead multi-functional teams that deliver solutions while mitigating or removing hurdles obstacles

  • BS BA, MS MA degree or equivalent work experience

  • Due to nature of the work involved, be eligible to work within the US without any sponsorship
