We are seeking a Manager Software Development for the Global Buying Hub (GBH) with a focus on International growth. Our newly formed team with take the GBH experience to the next level with GBH 2.0, the state of the art Machine Translation Production, Item Visibility Framework (IVF) maintenance and development, and driving local payments, shipping, and SEO solutions for unsited market expansion. GBH development is the fastest way to add new active buyers and increase GMB for eBay.

We will work closely with Platform Architecture to enable the eBay goal of “The World Shops First on eBay” by building a global platform that makes it as easy to buy and sell things from half-a-world away as it is to buy and sell from right next door. We will deliver “borderless commerce” to help sellers worldwide grow their businesses and for buyers from every country to get their version of perfect.

This individual will be responsible for leading three engineering teams: Tiger team , working closely with Domain teams to ensure GBH 2.0 is fully enabled for the Lexington/ latest Homepage experience; Machine Translation Production , working closely with the MT Research team to move MT pools from c3/Altus to containerized deployments TESS.IO, move MT training to eBay’s AI platform, joint research/PD work on putting neural MT to production and also hybridizing NMT to make it easier to do overrides and fixes, MT quality improvements, quarterly MT model updates; Item Visibility Framework (IVF) , maintenance and future development in support of CBT initiatives. He or she will also work closely with the Platform Architecture team to ensure Geo Services are fully enabled, and support the initiative to build out a truly Global Platform framework.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the team's work with high-quality, well-tested and scalable code

  • Coach and mentor junior and mid-level members of your team

  • Improve agile development and continuous delivery processes

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams

  • Ensure code quality and maintainability by evolving architecture and tech stack, code reviews, refactoring, standards and improving build and test systems

  • Integrate with technology stacks maintained by other teams at eBay

  • Participate in complete software development process from planning, requirements elicitation and documentation to design, implementation, testing, code reviews, and maintenance

Your profile:

  • 10+ years of experience as a senior/lead Java engineer and/or system architect, including 5+ years of experience with enterprise level software development

  • Experience with eCommerce systems a strong plus

  • Masters degree in Computer Science or comparable field, or comparable (in scope and complexity) work experience.

  • Deep knowledge of Java, Spring Framework, web technologies and databases (bonus: node.js, react)

  • Advanced understanding of design, implementation and operation of distributed services and APIs

  • Passion for agile software development, product discovery and continuous deployment

  • High aspiration for quality balanced with a good sense of pragmatism

  • Understanding of quality assurance as a task of the entire team to build the best experience for users

  • Independent and quick adoption of new technologies and concepts

  • Effective oral and written English communication skills
