Description
As Product Development Engineer you will * Identify business opportunities and manage multiple projects to ensure they are delivered on time with the right scope to deliver measureable positive revenue and/or cost impact to the business. * Evaluate the feasibility and cost savings impact of new ideas through cost estimating and technical and manufacturing feasibility assessments and document the results. * Investigate new technologies to improve the productivity and efficiency of our customers. * Review data to drive priorities and opportunities. * Review and report on both in-house and supplier engineering specifications. * Update designs using engineering databases, including CAD, ECAD, and Firmware. * Communicate regularly with suppliers, both domestic and international. * Generate and update new standards in test planning to create sustainable and predictable validation work to guarantee quality. * Update designs, drawings, engineering data and engineering releases as required. * Supervise technicians to drive production testing, validation, and engineering specification updates.

Qualification
The Product Development Engineer must have at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field. This level of education is necessary to enable the Product Development Engineer to perform the highly specialized and complex tasks that are required in order to effectively perform the job duties required for the position. A person who has not attained this level of formal education and experience would be unable to perform the job duties for the position Product Development Engineer.

Attributes: * Proficient in one or more of the core product development engineering disciplines such as electronics, mechanical, software, or firmware. Desirable: Altium, SolidWorks or Visual Studio experience. * Readily grasp the fundamentals of the applications for which scientists use our products and the engineering implications thereof. * Have planned and managed several projects to success. * A knack for problem solving and troubleshooting. * User of a range of scientific instrumentation in a lab setting. * Learns the theory of operation underlying instrumentation performance. * Experienced with design controls and engineering change management -- design reviews; PDM; ECOs. * Sense of urgency / immediate impact – quickly assesses new situations; prioritizes the critical few tasks. * Well organized – uses time and resources effectively. * Results oriented – has track record for delivery results, takes ownership and is accountable. * Leadership and followership – communicates openly and clearly; understands, influences and engages others to get input and buy- in; treats all associates with respect; earns their trust. * BS, MS or PhD in a scientific or engineering field – a life science a plus.
