BSI Group Senior/Principal Environmental Health & Safety Consultant- Environmental Leader in San Jose, California

We are looking for a leader who can help grow our BSI’s Environmental Remediation practice area in Northern CA. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) who has a passion to grow a business, manage and mentor staff, and provides exceptional service to clients. This is a highly visible role with an opportunity for significant impact in the company.

Areas of prior success should include engineering management, business development, construction, staff management and development with experience in developing strategies for environmental projects involving contaminated air, soil, groundwater, and/or hazardous waste handling.

The position will oversee environmental projects, set budgets, project reporting, purchase requisitions, project schedule, equipment/crew usage, and project closure activities. Strong positive interaction with BSI staff, regulators, clients, and subcontractors and field supervisors would be necessary. Position may also act as a direct supervisor for junior level staff.

Our ideal candidate will have a successful history working for key clients, and a strong current network of contacts in California to leverage into new work. Business development responsibilities will include identifying opportunities at existing and new clients, making presentations, attending local association meetings, and scoping projects.

Hands-on project management experience is required including safely remediating petroleum hydrocarbons, solvents, metals, landfill gases and semi-volatile compounds as well as decommissioning and facilities closure. Familiarity with groundwater pump and treat systems, vapor extraction, stormwater treatment systems, demolition and decommissioning, and soil excavation disposal methods is also required.

The position requires regulatory knowledge in applying soil, air and water permit processes, stormwater management, Underground and Aboveground tank permitting, spill pollution control and countermeasures (SPCC) and waste classification/disposal requirements. Responsible for project planning and execution of selected remedy, including, the development of conceptual designs, work plans, permits, quality control programs and construction management including planning and scheduling, materials procurement, equipment selection, invoicing and cost control.

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering or Geology-or related field is required. A MS or MBA is desirable.

  • PE or PG license in the state of Calif.

  • 7-10 yrs+ experience in project management with projects as described above, successfully managing teams in large remediation projects. Strong Project Management experience as well as supervisory experience, mentoring more junior team members.

  • Ideally 7+ years of consulting experience.

  • Providing sales leadership, and making new and existing client sales

  • Meeting sales objectives, maintaining sales plans and updating sales forecast and pipeline

  • Generating leads, coordinating meetings and proposals, and conducting follow up to meet sales targets

  • Developing and maintaining our Customer Relationship Management system to track leads and measure sales performance

  • Proposal preparation, including estimating work scope and price, and presentation process and managing client relations to ensure complete satisfaction

  • Maintaining a high profile externally and through membership/ attendance in life science industry functions, continually increasing contact base

  • EHS project management and coordination of project teams including serving as a Client Steward (Account Manager) for key accounts

  • Seen as a leader within BSI and outside BSI, as a result of your technical, industry and competitive knowledge

  • Development and implementation of written Environmental programs.

  • Performing Environmental audits.

  • Supporting technical environmental training.

  • Highly organized and self-motivated
